Can HCG Help You Lose Weight?

The weight loss industry today is rampant with fads, and every day I see more new fads coming up. Even more shocking than the rapid revolution of fads is how easily the common people are accepting it without thinking twice about possible dangers or outcomes. Everyone wants to lose weight quick with the help of these fad products. I never believed in fads and never will. I believe in natural weight loss methods such as dieting and exercising. One of the latest fads that is kicking up a storm in the weight loss industry is called HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin)

If you are thinking that HCG is just another drug, well you are wrong. HCG is a hormone which is already present in the human body. The hormone levels are elevated in the body of pregnant women. That is why an HCG test is use to detect or confirm pregnancy.

HCG became known for it benefits on overweight people after an author name Kevin Trudeau published a book that claimed, HCG can help people lose weight. While Kevin Trudeau claims that HCG is a phenomenal hormone that can help people lose weight quicker than any other weight loss supplement or pill, there is no medical or scientific evidence that backs up this claim.  No extensive or long term study have been conducted as yet to know if this truly works or  the long term effects that synthesize versions will have on the human body. The manufacturers who produce the synthesized version of this hormone did not claim that it will help obese people lose weight. Only a few doctors and experts are claiming that they have proof of its effectiveness on overweight people.

When taking the HCG diet, doctors will also ask you to go on a low calorie diet. So it’s hard to tell which is helping the person to lose weight, the HCG hormone or the low calorie diet, that is if he/she does lose weight.

Based on research and information gathered, I am still skeptical about recommending HCG as a weight loss method to any of my clients. Until the effectiveness of the HCG is fully proven, I will be sticking to natural weight loss methods; which are a healthy eating plan and exercising.
